Privacy Policy

Dave Saves Dinner ("DSD", "we", "us", "our") is a recipe sharing and social cooking app available at davesavesdinner.com and as a mobile app. You can contact us at privacy@davesavesdinner.com.

By using our website and app, you consent to this Privacy Policy and agree to its terms.

Account information: your name, username, and email address when you register; your password (stored encrypted, never readable); your profile photo if you choose to upload one; your location (country, county, region) if you provide it; your bio if you choose to add one.

Content you create: recipes you upload including titles, steps, ingredients, and photos; cook posts you create including photos, captions, and star ratings; interactions with other users' content.

Social activity: users you follow and users who follow you; recipes you like or favourite; reports you submit about content or other users.

Search history: When you use the ingredient search feature, we record which ingredients you searched with and whether your search returned results. This information is used to personalise ingredient ordering and improve search quality. It is linked to your account and deleted when you delete your account.

Technical data: your device type and operating system; app usage data such as when you log in and actions you take within the app.

Crash reports and session replays: If the app crashes or encounters an error, we collect anonymous diagnostic data including a replay of the session leading up to the error. This data is not linked to your identity. All text, images and personal content within the app are masked before transmission. This data is used solely to identify and fix bugs and improve app stability.

Directly from you when you register, update your profile, or create content. Automatically when you use the app. Through third party sign-in if you use Sign in with Apple or Google Sign In.

We use your data to: create and manage your account; display your recipes, cook posts, and profile to other users; power the social features of the app (following, feeds, likes); send you transactional emails such as email verification via our email provider Resend; moderate content to keep the app safe for all users; maintain and improve the app.

We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.

Contractual necessity — processing required to provide the app service you have signed up for, including account management, content storage, and social features.

Legitimate interests — processing necessary to operate, secure, and improve the app, including content moderation, fraud prevention, and bug fixing, where these interests are not overridden by your rights.

Consent — processing of optional information you choose to provide, such as profile photo, bio, and location. You may withdraw consent at any time by removing this information from your profile or deleting your account.

DSD uses Anthropic's Claude AI API to automatically moderate user-generated content — including uploaded images and text — to detect inappropriate, explicit, or harmful material before it is published. Content that triggers a moderation flag is blocked and not stored. This processing is performed at the point of upload and is not used to build profiles or for advertising purposes.

To operate DSD we use the following third party services, each with their own privacy policy: Cloudflare R2 (storage of recipe photos, cook post photos, and profile avatars); Anthropic Claude (AI content moderation); Pusher (real-time notifications and activity updates); Resend (transactional email delivery); DigitalOcean (server hosting and infrastructure); Apple (app distribution, Sign in with Apple); Google (Google Sign In); Sentry (crash reporting and session replay — privacy policy: sentry.io/privacy/).

Your account data and content is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data, cook posts, photos, likes, follows, activity data, and search history are permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days. Recipes you have uploaded become part of the DSD community cookbook and are retained under DSD ownership following account deletion — this is so the community continues to benefit from content you have contributed. Anonymised or aggregated data may be retained for statistical purposes.

If you are based in the UK or European Economic Area you have the following rights. To exercise any of them contact us at privacy@davesavesdinner.com. We will respond within one month.

The right to access — you have the right to request copies of your personal data. The right to rectification — you have the right to request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information. The right to erasure — you have the right to request that we erase your personal data. You can also do this directly in the app via Edit Profile → Delete Account. The right to restrict processing. The right to object to processing. The right to data portability. The right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the ICO at ico.org.uk.

If you are a California resident you have the right to request disclosure of the personal data we have collected about you, request deletion of your personal data, and opt out of the sale of your personal data — we do not sell personal data. Contact privacy@davesavesdinner.com.

Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) gives Canadian residents the right to access their personal data, request corrections, and withdraw consent. Contact privacy@davesavesdinner.com.

You can delete your account directly within the app at any time via Edit Profile → Delete Account. This will permanently delete your account, cook posts, photos, likes, follows, activity data, and search history. Recipes you have uploaded are retained as part of the DSD community cookbook under DSD ownership. This action cannot be undone.

DSD is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. Contact privacy@davesavesdinner.com if you believe a child has provided us with personal data.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
